When you're multiracial, it can be a journey to find your identity...
So you better bring some galletas (cookies)!!!
I originally made the above comic for the Somos Escritoras Blog as their founder the amazing Tracey Flores had reached out to me asking me to do a post.
Somos Escritoras is a Latinx Writing Workshop for Latina girls to learn tools to speak their truths, define themselves, and amplify their voices within a supportive community.
And when I talked at the Workshop, I recognized many kids that had been just like me. Scared to say how they identify, because scared of saying the wrong thing!
Which inspired me to make this comic as I struggled with how to identify for toooooooooooooooooo long.
BUT, when I first heard the term Tejana,
that spoke to me as the daughter of a Texan, and a Mexican.
It fit me so snugly, and felt like home. Like being at my Lita&Lito’s house, and that warm tortilla embrace they always gave me.
AND YAH, it would have a HUGE pat of butter on top!
Everyone's journey to how they identify is different, but when you find your community you can share your galletas with, it's magic!
Because YOU BELONG.
Even if you don’t want to share your cookies.
Except, you’d still share with me…right?
RIGHTTT?!??!?!
In other news, a NEW Ghost Horse comic will be in Goof Comics Volume 2!
Sending you the best of summer vibes!!
I love this! I am at least 200% galleta myself. 🤭
Eliza, I feel this in my multicultural heart. You have to prove your identity to everyone except your grandmother.
