MISTACO TOUR and advice!!
Eliza Kinkz may have already come to your town, and ate a taco in front of you!
My first book tour has completely walloped me.
I've had so much fun, but also it has been A LOT. I'm headed to my final event of the spring, and I'm ready for it!
If you are in the NYC area, come catch me at Books are Magic Montague location this Sunday!! RSVP HERE!!
Here is my tour flyer of Texas events that I meant to post END OF MARCH hahahahahahaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh.
AGAIN, Touring has been a lot of fun and a lot OF WORK.
LOT is the key word apparently….
My final event Texas event was at Nixta Taqueria. I ran into the owners, and they were so nice! We were just chatting about what we do, and I told them about my book and they offered to host an event. I loved this event as they do so much for the comunidad here in Austin. And it really feels like an organic way to give back to them as well.
So what are my thoughts after doing my first tour…
I think any author needs do a lot of self-care before, during and after the event. As you need to make sure you are taking care of YOU just as much as you are taking care of your books.
For me, it's very important I find moments of quiet, and time to just paint to process the emotional toll it takes on me.
BUT, everyone is different. What works for me. will probably not work for you.
Figure out what works for you, and what doesn't work for you!!
Honestly, bookstore events are hard for me, and I say this with such love for my independent bookstores. While school visits are soooooo fun, but I can only take two different schools a day! Book Festivals are great as I get to connect with a ton of other artists, but hard as they require time away from my family. Doing the organization for any event that requires extra details (gathering supplies) is TOO MUCH for me.
You have to pay attention to what is easy for you, and what is hard. Keep track of those things as you'll know when and where to put your time into for the future. And where not to!
As promotion for your book can be a huge weight, and it shouldn't be.
As your book in the world is a magical thing.
Something you created with such LOVE. It's like sending your child off to kindergarten, and you're like why isn't everyone being their best friend immediately?!? YOU OTHER CHILDREN ARE THE WORST!!
BREATH!! It’s again a LOT.
But, it is worth it.
As long as you take care of yourself just as much as you do your book.
Any self-care tips?
Post in the comments, and I may draw the cat doing them.
I’m gearing up to do my first book tour this summer/fall so it’s nice to see what others are doing!
Great tips! I need to remember this for next year's releases. I hope you get lots of rest after and celebratory tacos from your favorite spot! 🎉
